Everyday tasks can become difficult for different reasons, more so with long term illness. Help with the simplest of tasks can make your life far more comfortable.
We have a wide range of nurses, healthcare workers, personal assistants and support workers, who have experience working with people who suffer from a variety of illnesses, including MS, people with spinal injuries, Parkinson's disease, brain injuries and many others. For example, if you have had a stroke and would like a support worker who has experience in this area, let us know and we will match your needs to an appropriate group of support workers.
Our support workers and nursing staff are trained to use moving and handling equipment such as hoists, bath chairs and slide sheets. We can provide two support workers or nurses if required, or we can work alongside a main carer, such as a family member.
Examples of how we can help
The aim at The Flame Lily is to treat everyone as an individual. We will tailor our service to meet your needs; here are a few examples of how we can help:
Independence.
You may need just that extra bit of support to remain independent, such as having somebody to call round once a week to help with your washing or ironing, or maybe help with the cleaning. Alternatively, you may require more support than this to ensure that you have access to be as independent as possible.
Help at meal times.
This may include assisting with meal preparation or to make you a meal. The Flame Lily can assist by encouraging and managing your nutritional requirements, to ensure your health and well being.
Managing your medication.
All of our support workers and nurses are trained to administer medication in tablet and cream form. Our nursing staff can assist you with more complex medication like injections.
Shopping.
Our support workers can assist you to access the community so that you can complete your own shopping when required. Alternatively you may require support to order your shopping online which is also something we can support you with. Should you not be able to take part in the grocery shopping yourself, our support workers are still able to help, but will always try to encourage you to be part of this activity.
Personal Care.
Help and support with personal care such as managing your toileting needs, help to get out of bed in the morning and washed and dressed, assistance to shower or bath, or assistance to go back to bed, then our support workers will provide you with a first-class service with an essential focus on enabling you to be as independent as possible.
Goal Setting
The Flame Lily is committed to enabling its customers. This is why we use goal setting; this gives you the opportunity to set your own goals, which our support workers will help you to achieve. These goals could be anything you wish, see below for a few examples:
- Make yourself a drink, rather than having a support worker do it for you
- Attending a social event; whether you need assistance to arrange transport or a support worker to accompany you
- Finding pieces or equipment to make your life easier and ultimately become more independent to spend time doing things that YOU want to do rather than attending a day care centre
- Practice walking small distances
- To go to the local swimming baths
All of these examples give only a brief outline, in reality the support workers would take the time to work with you and break these goals down into manageable steps. These goals would be clearly identified on your Support Plan.
Self Directed Support
Self Directed Support and Individual Budgets are the future of social care. Together they put the customer in control, maximise the choices available and encourage independence.
In basic terms an individual budget is a sum of money allocated to you by your Local Authority to spend on the things that will improve your quality of life, meet your assessed needs and support your family carer. To find out more about the allocation of an Individual Budget, then please contact your Local Authority or speak to your Social Worker.
You can use some of the money that you have been allocated within your Individual Budget to buy care from an agency such as The Flame Lily.
Getting an Individual Budget and using it for Self Directed Support is split into 6 simple steps:
Step 1. Your Money
Your Local Authority will assess your needs and potential risks, and will issue you with a Questionnaire, which asks things about your safety for example and seeks to obtain your view on the level of your care and daily living needs. Once this has been completed, your care manager or Social Worker will be able to advise you on how much money you may be entitled to. This is known as an Indicative Budget, as it is still subject to change.
Step 2. Designing your Support Plan
The next step is to design your Support Plan. This will say how you intend to spend your money on things that will improve your quality of life and meet your assessed needs. You may want to make the plan on your own or get help. Once your plan is complete, it needs to be checked and agreed with by your Social Worker.
Step 3. Organising Your Money
Once your plan has been agreed, you need to decide who is going to manage your Individual Budget and pay your care bills. The Flame Lily can assist you with managing the following –
- A Direct Payment
- An Individual Service Fund and a Council Managed Fund
Step 4. Putting your plan into action.
There are two parts to organising your support and The Flame Lily are able to assist in both areas:
- Deciding the kind of support you want and figuring out who you want to provide the support
- Arranging and managing the support
You can do this yourself, or you have the option of using the support provided by The Flame Lily a friend or family member to do this for you. These are not the only options available to you, more detail is available on:
www.in-control.co.uk
Step 5. Living Life
This is where you are able to look to achieve the desired outcomes and goals as detailed in your Support Plan. The Flame Lily are committed to ensuring that you are able to achieve as many outcomes as possible whilst supporting you to look and plan for the future.
Step 6. Review and Learn
You will need to show your Local Authority that you have used your Individual Budget properly and in a safe manner. This will be considered in the review process and you can also look to see if it is working for you or look at what changes may be required.
